Chinese BBQ Spareribs

Chinese Sticky Ribs 2

Do you want your ribs to be both tender and flavorful? Then you need your Aroma Slow Cooker this summer to enjoy ribs that are cooked to perfection in addition to keeping the kitchen cool.

These ribs benefit from a dry rub. By massaging the spice mixture into the meat, the flavor intensifies. The longer the rub sits on the meat before cooking, the better.

Also, give special attention to your sauce; that is the key to the final flavor of these Spicy Sticky Ribs.

Ingredients for Ribs
2 ½ lbs pork ribs
2 tsp kosher salt
2 tsp course ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp granulated garlic
1/2 tsp granulated onion
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tbsp brown sugar

Directions
Whisk spices and sugar together and rub thoroughly into the meat.
Cover with plastic wrap and allow to marinate in refrigerator for at least an hour or more. This can be done up to 24 hours in advance.
When ready to cook, place the ribs in the inner pot with the meatier side facing down.
Add ½ c water and slow cook the ribs for 3 ½ to 4 hours or until tender.
When done, remove the ribs and brush with the sauce. If desired, place ribs on a baking pan and broil until browned and sauce has caramelized. Garnish with chopped green onions, cilantro and sesame seeds.

Ingredients for Sauce
1 cup hoisin sauce
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
3 tbsp curry powder
2 tbsp crushed garlic
1 ½ tbsp minced ginger

Directions
Cook all ingredients in a heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally for at least 15 minutes. Taste for seasoning, adding additional vinegar if needed. The vinegar gives it the barbecue “kick.”

  1. I assume that the ribs are cut into individual ribs after the rub and before putting them in the rice cooker. Am I correct? Looks like it will be very tasty.
