This black bean burger is super easy and super delicious. It’s totally easy to customize and you can add more or less spices. This recipe calls for a food processor or powerful blender for the pepper, onion and garlic. But let’s be real, I’m all about making cooking (and life in general) as easy as possible. So if you don’t want to pull out the blender, just cut up these veggies really really reallyyyy small. As small of a mince as you can.
16 oz can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 green bell pepper
1/2 small onion
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup Italian bread crumbs
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp cumin
salt & pepper, to taste
powerful blender or food processor
chipotle mayo (1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 cup sour cream, juice from 1 lime, 1 tbsp adobo sauce)
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Put the rinsed and drained black beans into a large bowl and mash well with a fork.
Put the bell pepper, onion, and garlic into the food processor and pulse until finely minced. OR finely mince by hand. After it’s a fine mince, blot with paper towels to remove as much moisture as possible. The less moisture, the better the burgers will stick together.
Add the minced vegetables to the mashed black beans. Stir in the seasonings and mix them well together. Then add in the egg and bread crumbs and again mix well to combine.
Form the black bean mixture into 4 patties.
Set the Grillet for 400 degrees and let it heat briefly. Cook the burgers for about 4 minutes on each side until there are light grill marks and they are heated through. Serve on buns with chipotle mayo and other toppings.
